About the Artist

Simon Addyman, born in 1957 in Colchester, Essex, England, is a British-born artist who now lives and works in Auburn, Northern California with his artist/printmaker wife, Carol. He was raised in a household full of art — both his parents were artists, with his father, John Addyman, a well-known watercolorist and his mother, Madeline, a successful printmaker. This early exposure nurtured his passion for visual art.

Addyman trained at the Colchester School of Art and the City & Guilds of London Art School, earning a diploma in fine art. He began his career as an illustrator and graphic artist, producing murals, custom art commissions for interior designers, and scenic art in Hollywood.  However, his true calling remained painting, and he returned to it after exploring commercial art.

He is known for his expressive landscape paintings and still lifes, often created from direct observation (plein air) and developed in the studio. His work is celebrated for its versatility and distinctive style, which he consistently infuses into his pieces, making them highly valued by collectors.

Addyman’s art has been featured in numerous European and American private and public collections. He has participated in notable exhibitions, including California Impressionism, Past and Present at the Huntington Beach Art Center (2015) and the Northern California Impressionism Exhibition at the Peninsula Museum of Art (2016). He is an active member of the California Art Club, which supports his ongoing engagement with fellow artists and nature.

Today, Addyman continues to paint landscapes and still lifes, inspired by the natural world, and offers custom commissions to collectors. His work reflects both his English roots and his deep connection to the California landscape.
